Island hopping via the other islands
Are you on another Wadden island and would like to travel to Texel? Or would you like to extend your holiday on Texel with a visit to the other islands? Then island hopping is just the thing for you. Read our tips here.
If you want to visit all the islands in one holiday, it takes quite a bit of puzzling. The tides and the limited supply of crossings between the islands make planning difficult. Texel-based travel agency ReisCreaties organises Wadden experiences; organised trips from Texel to Schiermonnikoog, as well as various combinations of two islands. You can even island hop to the German or Danish Wadden Islands!
Wadden ferry De Vriendschap sails between Texel and Vlieland. With this ferry service, it is possible to take a day trip to Vlieland and a one-way trip is also possible. The boat departs from the iconic jetty at Paal 33 (De Cocksdorp) and, depending on the type of crossing, takes you to the Vliehors or the port of East Vlieland.
Want to island hop between Vlieland and Terschelling? At Rederij Doeksen you can book a crossing between these two islands. This boat trip takes about 30 minutes.
Via VVV Ameland, you can book the crossing between Ameland and Terschelling or Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. These trips are mainly sailed in the summer period.
The Ameland - Terschelling v.v. trip sails along the south coasts of both islands, including the Bosplaat. Depending on the ship, the trip lasts from 3 to 7 hours.
The trip Ameland - Schiermonnikoog and v.v. takes you along the beautiful east coast of Ameland, the uninhabited Engelsmanplaat and the west point of Schiermonnikoog. Depending on which ship you sail with, this trip takes between 3 and 5.5 hours.
For both routes, there are also trips where you stay overnight on a historic sailing ship. You then leave in the late afternoon and arrive in the morning.
Eilandhopper docks with historic sailing clippers Minerva and Willem Jacob in the ports of Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland, Schiermonnikoog, Lauwersoog and Harlingen. You can take a round trip from one of the islands, or join a multi-day trip with overnight stay on board. Help the skipper with sailing, cook in the ship's kitchen or enjoy a drink on deck.
