Love visiting local markets? Browsing the fresh products, regional speciality wares and one-of-a-kind souvenirs...? Alongside a weekly market, you’ll find a wealth of seasonal markets here in summer. There’s also a car boot sale in De Koog and cellar sales and flea markets in Oosterend and Den Hoorn. Markets can also be found in our events calendar.
There’s a weekly market in Den Burg throughout the year.
Mondays are market day in the centre of Den Burg. Each week, you’ll find stalls piled with fresh fruit, veg, dairy, fish, plants and flowers. There’s also a year-round flea market in Den Hoorn on Mondays.
In summer, hardly a day goes by without a market somewhere on Texel. With different specialties in different villages, here’s our line-up.
Stalls pack De Koog’s Dorpsstraat for the weekly “Koger Dinsdag” market every Tuesday in July and August. Expect great bargains, souvenirs and clothes, plus fun for the little ones.
Den Burg holds a Summer market every Wednesday, with loads of vendors offering regional products, Texel artisan wares, clothes and souvenirs along the high street and main square. There’s also live music and activities for kids.
“Hoornder Donderdag” has been a fixture in Den Hoorn for years. With loads to buy and see, this characterful market is alternately held on De Herenstraat in the town centre or on the field outside the church each Thursday.
Get your seafood fix in Oudeschild every Friday in July and August at the “Havenmarkt” on the quay. Alongside fried fish, you’ll also find artisanal products and souvenirs.
On Saturdays in May und June De Cocksdorp holds a small market on the main square, featuring a variety of vendors, food and beverages and entertainment. From the beginning of July untill the end of August there is a Summermarket in the centre of De Cocksdorp. In Oosterend, the “Strendermarkt” is traditionally held on the second and fourth Saturdays of August.
In May, June, September and October there’s also a Sunday market in De Koog.
Oosterend has a large annual Christmas market, when the whole village is decked out in Anton Pieck storybook style. Den Burg always rings out the year with a winter market offering a varied music programme, food and beverages, fire pits and more. There’s also a Christmas market at Maartenhuis, with homemade goodies, a living nativity scene and choir performances. Stock up on seasonal gifts and other items hand-crafted by locals and Maartenhuis residents.
