Texel is famous for its lovely, tender lamb. This top-quality meat must be from lambs that have spent at least 100 days out in the fields before it can make a claim for the Waddengoud quality stamp. Butcher’s shop Slagerij-eetwinkel Moormann & de Boer also sells beef, pork and chicken that is locally farmed on Texel. In fact, you can even order their meat and cooked meat.
At Texel’s mushroom farm Texelse Paddenstoelenkwekerij, they grow mushrooms by hand. It’s all completely organic and you can actually taste the care that goes into them! The farm’s own website has lots of recipes for Texel shiitake.
For obvious reasons, there are plenty of specialist fishmongers on Texel offering an extensive range of fried, smoked and fresh fish.
