Texel has a large number or interesting museums, which regularly put on new exhibitions. From interesting stories from the past to contemporary art: we list the newest exhibitions for you here.
Did you know that there is also an exhibition on the TESO ferry? Until July 2019, beachcombing museum Kaap Skil is displaying finds by divers, the origin of shipwrecks in the Wadden Sea and information about the maritime history of Texel in the glass cabinets on the lounge deck (North Sea side) of the ms. Texelstroom. An interesting start to a (cultural) visit to Texel!
Paintings, ceramics, photographs and sculptures: De Peperhof exhibits the work of several Texel artists. From 27 October, visitors can enjoy changing exhibitions, free of charge, at the former Reformed Church in Oosterend. De Peperhof is open from Tuesday to Saturday inclusive, from 13:00 to 15:30.
Museum Kaap Skil puts on changing exhibitions throughout the year. The touring exhibition ‘Boten bij de vis’ can be visited from 15 September until 11 November. You will be introduced to Zuider Zee fishermen, their boats and the wharfs where they were built. The exhibition ‘Het Schervenwrak’ displays shards recovered by divers from a ship that sank in 1822. These treasures can be seen at Kaap Skil until October 2019.
Fun letters, crazy letters, love letters, poems, drawings and even photos have been found on the beach. This exhibition at Schipbreuk- en Juttersmuseum Flora presents part of beachcomber Wim Kruiswijk’s collection, who found about 1,200 messages in a bottle over a period of roughly 40 years. The message-in-a-bottle exhibition is open daily until the end of October, from 10:00 to 17:00.
In addition, there are long-running and permanent exhibitions to enjoy at Texel museums, such as at Oudheidkamer, the in 2018 renovated aviation and war museum Luchtvaart- en Oorlogsmuseum and Gallery and Sculpture Garden De Weezenplaats.
