At the northernmost tip of the island, near De Cocksdorp, you will find the striking red lighthouse of Texel. Beautiful view When you visit the lighthouse and climb the 118 steps, you are treated to a beautiful view 47 meters above sea level! It's quite a climb, but the reward is great. Once at the top, you look out over the North Sea, Wadden Sea, the northern part of Texel and nearby Vlieland. In clear weather you can see tens of kilometers away! Old and new On the way up you will discover the turbulent history of the tower. During the Second World War, the lighthouse came under heavy fire. The bullet holes can still be seen in the old tower that has remained standing. The new tower is built around this. The inside with the beautiful cast iron stairs dates from 1864, the outside is from 1947. On the fourth floor you can walk between the old and the new wall and you can see the bullet holes. Information about the history of the lighthouse can be read on the different floors. For more information and entrance prices, visit the website (vuurtorentexel.nl).
Dogs and pushchairs are not allowed into the tower. There is no elevator in the tower. The path to the lighthouse is barrier-free. Wheelchair users can reach the lighthouse.
