In summer, you want to be outside and enjoy the nice weather. A festival is therefore the perfect getaway. And let it be the case that Texel has a varied selection of festivals! Whether on the beach or in one of the villages, for both young and old, from rock to reggaeton.
The WAVES Festival was created by Olympic windsurfing champion Dorian van Rijsselberge. This is also visible during the festival. For it is the perfect combination of water sports and music. The festival takes place on the beach, of course! At Paal 17, cool DJs will play records until the late hours. From electronic music to pop music. Various bands will also perform. During the day, you can enjoy the various water sports competitions of the Round Texel Race.
SomPop, formerly known as SommeltjesPop, is one of the biggest pop festivals on the island! In the festival area around De Waal, you can watch performances by young, up-and-coming bands full of talent. Even though it is a pop festival, different genres are played, such as rock, hip-hop and even folk songs. Performers include singer-songwriters, indie rock bands and ska artists. There is a lively atmosphere, thanks in part to the beer tasting, arcade hall and pub quiz.
Dancing with a drink in your hand, under the blazing sun with a fresh sea breeze. Sounds good right? The festival SunBeats knows exactly how to create this atmosphere. At Paal 17, dance lovers gather every year to dance the night away from noon until late at night. Music is played by both well-known Dutch and international DJs.
Beach Food Festival is, you guessed it, all about food. Best of all, you can enjoy it with a rug on the grass. On the Wadden beach in Oudeschild, you will find food trucks with delicious Texel dishes. Top chefs from Texel will prepare the food right in front of your nose for three days.
Do you always look at life from the sunny side? Then Sunny Side Up Festival is for you. At beach pavilion Twelve in Den Hoorn, the festival celebrates every summer with all kinds of different music styles, including house, afro and techno. Basically any music that is danceable. During the festival, you also have the opportunity to grab a surfboard and float in the sea.
Strenderpop is the annual pop festival in Oosterend. This cosy and fun festival for young and old will definitely get you in the party mood. Especially through live music by local bands and the varied programme consisting of rock, pop and blues.
Did you know that De Waal, the smallest village on Texel, hosts the biannual storytelling festival 'Stories in the Wind'? Visitors travel around the village to listen to different storytellers. These storytellers share their compelling, sad, happy, poignant, humorous or instructive stories in the villagers' living rooms.
For three days during the End of Summer Festival, the Dorpsstraat in De Koog is all about festively dressed dancers and exotic food. And let's not forget the music! With genres such as merengue, R&B, salsa, reggae, caribbean and funk, this is definitely a festival where a cocktail or mocktail should not be missed.
