Advent windows in Oosterend

From 1 December, the annual Advent calendar in the form of atmospheric Advent windows starts in Oosterend! This year, more than 24 windows can be admired in the village. Each window will be beautifully and creatively decorated by residents in a Christmas or winter theme. Each evening, a new window ‘opens’ and is illuminated from late afternoon until around 11pm. It is the perfect opportunity to take a lovely stroll through Oosterend in the evening and view the illuminated windows. The windows will remain open until the end of the year.

This activity is also fun for children, who can look for the latest Advent window each evening. On some days, two or three windows even open, so the surprise is slightly different each time.

How did it come about?

Janny van der Graff (active in the Oosterender community) started this tradition in 2007, after visiting her family in St Gallen in Switzerland. She saw this nice idea there in the town neighbourhood and was keen to bring it to Oosterend and thus organise something together in the run-up to Christmas. In 2007 was the first time and so far she has succeeded every year. A fine tradition, which hopefully will continue for a long time.

Where are the Advent windows?

The advent windows are in Oosterend, with 29 houses participating this year. Want to see all the advent windows? Download the route below and discover all the windows during a walk through Oosterend.
