WAVES Festival

Listening, dancing and partying on Texel: 8 music festivals on Texel to enjoy

Texel is not that big in terms of kilometres, but looking at the musicians who visit our island, it is definitely an island of proportion. Throughout the year, various music festivals descend from all kinds of different genres. These music festivals are not to be missed on Texel.

SomPop

Formerly known as SommeltjesPop, but today as the slightly tougher SomPop. During this festival, the area around De Waal is transformed into the venue for the largest live pop festival on the island. It is an ideal place to discover new talent and thus really a fine ‘band-watching’ festival. And not just pop: rock, hip-hop and even life-songs also feature. Singer-songwriters, indie rock bands, ska artists: SomPop is nothing too crazy. As long as it is young, new and full of talent. Moreover, this festival also offers a cosy atmosphere, thanks in part to the beer tasting, arcade hall, pub quiz and above all: the visitors.

WAVES Festival

WAVES Festival is exactly what you expect it to be: water sports on the one hand and music festival on the other. It was therefore started by Olympic windsurfing champion, Dorian van Rijsselberghe. Of course, there is only one place where this festival can take place and that is on the beach, close to the sea. Paal 17 is home to WAVES, where a great line-up of deejays spins records until the late hours. But there is also room for pop music: for instance, Danny Froger was on stage there in 2023.

SunBeats

We stay at Paal 17 for a while, as it is also home to SunBeats. This is a festival that plays electronic music by all kinds of well-known deejays from the Netherlands and abroad. A festival that attracts many dance lovers every year, who dance the night away from noon until late in the evening. This is also the Texel feeling: dancing and drinking together while enjoying the burning sun and the sea breeze.

Texelpop

The first edition of Texelpop was held in 1980 and has always remained the same: an accessible festival with bands that all come from Texel. The festival is a household name among Texelaars and unfortunately did not take place for a few years due to corona. However, there was such a strong desire to organise Texelpop again that it is back. It is organised by Tempo (the Texel Music Stages Committee) and De Krim Texel and many Texel musicians get the stage to let visitors hear what they have to offer.

Texelblues

A slightly more niche festival that also attracts big names from home and abroad is Texelblues. The event is the perfect time for blues lovers to enjoy the finest musical instruments, the best voices and lyrics that touch. It also takes place in charming Den Burg, a lively village that opens many cafés and stages to blues artists who want to show what they have to offer.

Uitmarkt BuitenGewoon Texel

More theatre and music? Texel has its own Uitmarkt. Artists, museums, events, artists and galleries are on hand during the Uitmarkt Buitengewoon Texel to put culture in the spotlight. Texel's cultural diversity is great and this is the festival par excellence to experience it. The event is free and takes place annually in the centre of Den Burg.

End of Summer Festival

If you want to celebrate the end of summer, you should be in De Koog at the end of August. During the End of Summer Festival, various cafés in the Dorpsstraat will host live performances and deejays in tropical atmospheres. You can enjoy Caribbean music and reggaeton but lovers of Dutch music will also have a great time at this festival.

Sunny Side Up Festival

The Sunny Side Up Festival is for everyone who wants to look on the sunny side. At beach pavilion Twelve in Den Hoorn, it celebrates every summer with all kinds of different music styles, something for everyone. The atmospheric festival goes for house, afro, techno and really the only credo is: the music has to be danceable. And if you don't want to move your hips or get your feet off the floor for a while, you can grab a board and float in the sea.
