Planning to explore Texel by bike? We are happy to explain how! Leave your car in Den Helder and take the ferry to Texel. Before getting on the ferry, you'll need to buy a ticket. €2.50 or €5 return: no problem! On board, enjoy the view and before you know it, you arrive on Texel. But what next?
Have you come to Texel as a pedestrian? Then it's handy to rent a bike, which you can do online in advance. There are many options, for example there is already a rental company at the ferry port 't Horntje. You can hire anything, from (electric) bikes to solexes and from tandems to cargo bikes. Once you have picked up a bike, you can start exploring!
Texel is a cycling island. This means there are lots of great cycle routes. You can also create your own route using the cycle junctions and a Texel Cycle junction map. The cycle routes and the Cycling junction map are available in our shop.
Highly recommended! Thanks to the kilometres of cycle paths, cycling around Texel is perfectly possible. Start and finish, for example, at cycle junction 9 in the village of Den Hoorn. This route will keep you busy all day! Don't forget to make a pit stop in one of our villages to eat or shop, climb the lighthouse (junction 31) or enjoy the peace and quiet at one of the viewpoints.
To cycle the circuit counterclockwise (out via West and back via East), follow the nodes in this order: 9, 10, 11, 5, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 42, 51, 50, 76, 26, 14, 12, 9.
Want to learn more about Texel? Then of course you can join a guide. For example, you have the excursion 'Bike excursion with Txgids'. He will take you for two hours past beautiful stops, roads and views. This tour involves a muscle-powered bicycle. Other cycling excursions are 'South point of Texel' and 'Old land of Texel' by Texel Excursies. With both excursions, you cycle a route through the south of Texel. The 'South point of Texel' cycling tour takes you to Den Hoorn, De Dennen, Het Hoge Berg area and Fort De Schans.
