Do you have a dog? And do you want to go cycling together on Texel? Then we will explain to you in detail the best way to do so! It is possible to rent a (electric) dog carrier bicycle or a dog bike trailer. Then you can be sure that you can easily go everywhere together.
A dog carrier bicycle or dog bike trailer
A good bike is essential when cycling with your dog. Lucky for you, Texel offers a wide range of bicycles for rental. You can easily arrange this online. in advance. You can hire an electric dog bike from various bike hire companies, for example a tricycle with a special ramp or a two-wheeler with a door on the side. But you can also choose a dog bike trailer. For small dogs, you can also choose a dog basket that you hang from your handlebars or place on the back of your carrier.
Cycling routes
Looking for a nice route to cycle together? With a cargo bike or trailer, wider cycle paths are ideal. These wide paths can be found, for example, from the Ruigendijk outside De Koog to De Cocksdorp. And did you know that along the Ruijslaan and the Randweg through De Dennen there are also lovely wide cycle paths? Or choose the path through the Bleekersvallei to Paal 15, or along the Prins Hendrikzanddijk near 't Horntje. You can also explore Polder Waalenburg from De Staart, with bridges and a viewpoint at the Hertenkamp.
Stopping points
You will find various charging points on Texel. You can recharge your battery in the bike shed at Nature Centre De Marel, as well as at our VVV shop and at a number of museums. Want to recharge yourself? Then visit many of Texel's restaurants. Dogs are also welcome at the beach pavilions, of course! For a relaxing walk, the beach and forest are perfect. But beware! Dogs are not allowed to run free everywhere.
Activities
There are plenty of activities you can do with your dog. You can then cycle to these together. How about boat trips where your dog can come along? And your buddy can also join you at various exhibitions. You can also participate in gundog training courses, aimed at different levels and themes such as group work, marking in challenging terrain, water work and multiple retrieves. Here are some handy tips for dog owners coming to Texel. Firstly, there is a dog wash at Holiday Park De Krim and at Duinpark De Robbenjager in De Cocksdorp. And should you need a vet, you'll find one at Keesomlaan 11 in Den Burg. In Den Burg, you will find two different pet shops and a Welkoop.
