Why not visit one of Texel’s museums? Flora, the Maritime and Beach-Combing Museum, and Ecomare are opened daily so a visit is a great idea for a long weekend on Texel.
Texel has a number of spots the offer beautiful views of the island. A well-known spot is Fonteinsnol viewing tower. At the top, you’ll have a 360-degree panoramic view of the woods and the dunes. Other spots include the bunker at Den Hoorn, the steps at De Slufter, Bertusnol, and the IJzeren Kaap, all of which are accessible to the public.
Have a pleasant stroll around the market in the centre of Den Burg and climb the church tower, which is open every Monday morning (at Easter and Whitsun, it is open on Tuesday morning).
There’s plenty of time for a good, long walk along the beach and through the dunes if you are here for a long weekend. And afterwards, you can relax with a mug of hot chocolate or a tankard of Texel beer at a beach café.
Texel has 7 villages, and they all have their own distinctive character. Perhaps it’s too much to visit all the villages in one weekend, but if you extend you weekend by another day, you can visit all the pretty ones.
