It is almost always sunny on Texel. With an average of 2,046 hours of sunshine a year, the biggest of the Wadden Islands is one of the sunniest places in the Netherlands. But even on Texel, you may get the occasional poor-weather day.
Don’t worry, if you can’t spend the day at a pavement café, on a towel on the beach or cycling through the dunes, there is still a lot to experience on our island. Here are our 5 tips:
With over 30 kilometres of beach, blowing away the cobwebs on the beach is very tempting, even in bad weather. Put on a good coat and walk on the hard sand along the surf. From Paal 15 to Paal 17, for instance. There, you can catch your breath over a hot cup of tea or a glass of beer from Texel.
Talking of Skuumkoppe … At the bar of the Texel brewery, you can sample and buy all kinds of Texel beers besides this famous tasty little beer. And while you are there, why not join an extensive tour at one of the breweries?
Den Burg is the biggest village on the island. You can find many great shops here, including clothes and homeware shops. You can also enjoy a delicious lunch in Den Burg or spend an afternoon at the cinema!
Bungalow Park De Krim in the north of the island offers a wide range of facilities such as bowling, glow-in-the-dark golf or laser tag which are also open to non-guests!
Have you ever seen a whale skeleton up close? At the Whale Hall of Ecomare, you can admire no fewer than six of them! Or you could take a look around Flora, the biggest beachcomber museum in the world. On Texel, there are an impressive eight museums. Perfect for a rainy day!
