A special moment at the beautiful location of Schapenboerderij De Waddel! The agreement of Wandelnetwerk Texel (an extension of Wandelnetwerk Noord-Holland) was festively signed on Wednesday 15 May. The municipality of Texel, Staatsbosbeheer, Natuurmonumenten, ANLV De Lieuw, VVV Texel and Recreatie Noord-Holland will together add no less than 268 kilometres of footpaths to the existing network in the coming period.
Recreatie Noord-Holland's Routebureau will coordinate the construction of the route network on Texel. The partners will then provide information and manage and maintain the network. Province of North Holland has wanted a province-wide walking network for years. The realisation on Texel will soon complete the provincial walking map.
The aim of joining the network is to excite and enthuse both residents and tourists to explore the Texel landscape on foot. The routes connect nature areas with surrounding landscapes and villages and provide walking opportunities on farmland. For the recognisability of the network, the routes will have the same signposting as in the rest of the province.
The moment when the marked routes on the island can be walked is still some time away. The sketch design of all walking routes must be converted into a final design. A contractor is expected to start work on the walking network in mid-2025. In 2026, the network will be ready for use. Until then, hikers can continue to use the current walking routes with their signposting.
