Koninklijke Wandelbond Nederland and VVV Texel have been working together since 2022. Due to success, the cooperation has been extended for three years. In recent years, the number of walkers on Texel has increased and new routes and initiatives have been developed. In the coming years, there will be even more focus on the benefits of walking for people and the environment. 

You see more on foot

Visitors to Texel still often explore the island by car, while walking is the best way to really experience its natural beauty. On average, walkers discover 30% more of the island than car drivers. Moreover, less car traffic contributes to a better quality of life and nature conservation. KWbN and VVV Texel want to further stimulate this sustainable way of exploring at leisure.

What has been achieved?

Over the past three years, KWbN and VVV Texel have contributed to the development of the walking infrastructure and experience: 

• Expansion of the hiking network: Texel now has over 250 km of hiking trails. 

• New and updated routes: dozens of routes have been newly added, or improved. 

• Awareness campaigns: we have inspired tens of thousands of walkers via Wandel.nl.

What else will we do?

Over the next three years, we will continue along these lines and expand our cooperation:

• Texel as the hiking island of the Netherlands: we will strengthen Texel's position as the destination of choice for hiking enthusiasts. 
  
  
• More focus on spring and autumn: by encouraging visitors to come outside the high season, we spread the crowds and protect nature. 
  
  
• Sustainable awareness: campaigns and initiatives that help walkers to be more aware of nature and reduce their impact. 
  
  
• New inspiring content: stories and routes that show which special places can only be reached on foot. 
  Investing

KWbN and VVV Texel want to get even more people moving through walking and together invest in a sustainable and vital island. Because those who walk see more, experience more and contribute to a future-proof Texel.
