The Reede van Texel was the center of world trade in the 16th and 17th centuries. At that time, the sea near Texel was full of trading ships. At the impressive model at Museum Kaap Skil you imagine yourself in 1660, looking out over the sea. Some ships have sunk and are still there, but on the seabed. The roadstead of Texel In the 17th century ships were waiting for a favorable wind to set sail on the Reede van Texel. The world's largest model shows what that looked like. The model comes to life by means of light and sound effects. In the exhibition “Ship in sight” you will learn everything about whalers, whistle ships and war yachts. fishermen's houses At Kaap Skil, various fishermen's houses have been recreated in the outdoor area. Do you want to know how people lived at the beginning of the 19th century? Step in and find out. There are regular extra activities in the museum such as demonstrations of net fines, iron forging, spinning and rope making. Sailors and beachcombers stories are also told.
