Tuesday July 23, 2024 This summer, the Zomerkerk is again organizing surprising concerts in Texel churches, performed by professional musicians. For twelve summer evenings. A concert will also take place in the Maartenskerk in Oosterend. This evening the Texel pianist/organist Rachel Vroom-Barnard will play the organ of the Maartenskerk in Oosterend. The program includes J.S. Bach, J.G. Walther, F. Rachel studied piano with Hans Dercksen (Amsterdam), Nelleke Bartels (Zwolle) and Tonie Ehlen (Maastricht). She graduated in chamber music and took a master's degree with a specialization in contemporary music (Contemporary Music) with a note in jazz (with Willem Kühne, Tilburg). She gave piano recitals throughout Europe, Georgia and Los Angeles (USA). In 2006 she accidentally ended up behind an organ and was captivated by the possibilities of the instrument. She took organ lessons with Dyo Wassink (Texel) and Mark Heerink (Hoorn) and returned to the conservatory (Utrecht) in 2009. She studied church music there, majoring in choral conducting with Arnoud Heering and Mark Lippe and organ with Reitze Smits. After graduating, she became organist/conductor in various parishes. She gave organ concerts in various cathedrals in England, including Bristol, Guilford, Wymondham and Norwich. Nowadays, Rachel occasionally plays a church service on Texel or in Den Helder, she regularly gives house concerts and conducts the music association DEK in Den Hoorn.
