Wednesday, 4 October 2023 In this lecture, we will consider many of the works of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, but also see that he did not just create busy paintings. Indeed, he began his career making drawings that were then turned into etchings by his patron and sold in albums. Later, he made paintings that art historians have come to call 'Wimmelbilder', on which there is no clear centre of action. Besides style, Bruegel's iconography is also very interesting, with evergreens like 'The Dutch Proverbs' from 1559, many of which are still used regionally or otherwise to this day. This lecture will be given 'live' at Artex by Drs Krzysztof Dobrowolski-Onclin. Time: 7 pm to 9 pm. Cost: €10 including coffee/tea and something sweet.
