Art lecture (live at Artex): Art photography
Wednesday 29 January 2025 This lecture explains how photography, once seen as a tool for painting, developed into an independent art form. Despite the initially banal subjects and limited technique, such as the vaguely fixed image from 1827, photography quickly became popular after the introduction of the first camera in 1839. The lecture discusses how photographs by artists such as Dorothea Lange, Erwin Olaf and Rineke Dijkstra are now considered autonomous works of art, and shows numerous impressive examples from art photography.
