Thursday 15 May 2025 Is graffiti the same as street art? Not quite. The subtle difference will be discussed in the lecture. Take Banksy, for example. This British artist, who keeps his identity hidden, should definitely not be lumped together with the doodles in a back alley. Banksy has become world famous with his striking, cartoonish style. However, he often works illegally and his work has been removed for various reasons. On the other hand, what do we prefer: a blank, stone wall on a bleak street or a colourful painting? This lecture will not only discuss the indispensable idiom of graffiti, but also the different movements and techniques. You will also get to know artists who are not widely known and see some special centres of street art, such as the Polish Łódź.
