Tuesday 25 March 2025 Travel virtually to the surprising Bologna! Bologna became an important trading city in the Middle Ages, because it was located on an important route from the south to the north. The various rulers who tried to take the city, and often succeeded, cannot be counted on one hand. Bologna's power waned when Pope Julius II incorporated the city into the Papal States in 1506. However, painting continued to flourish there. What is special is that the School of Bologna has relatively many female painters who were highly appreciated.
