Nature preservation

Texel is known for its beautiful nature and unique landscape. Staatsbosbeheer and other organisations work hard to protect and improve nature. You can discover this nature yourself and see what is being done.

Nature preservation projects on Texel

Various nature restoration projects are being carried out on Texel. In the Tureluur and Schettersweid areas in De Dennen, the water level is raised and ditches are filled in. This will bring back wet grasslands, which many plants and animals love. A special part of this project is the renewal of the cycle path in Schettersweid. This cycle path now partly runs over water and helps to retain fresh water in De Dennen. Want to try out the cycle path yourself? Then navigate to cycle junction 46 on the Cycle Junction Map.

Measures have also been taken at De Nederlanden to retain more water. This helps nature to grow. In Waalenburg, farmland has been transformed into a nature reserve. This is now a nice place for birds and other animals. In Duinen van Texel National Park, restoration ensures that original plants return and the dunes are once again a safe place for birds and insects.
